“A Little Bit of Leather” Is Like “A Little Bit Pregnant”

Photo: PeTA

The only way to keep warm and dry is with leather and fur, right? True, when you live in the last century. But we do not live in the last century, we live in the year 2014, almost 2015, and there are many, many different ways to stay warm and dry without wrapping yourself in a piece of dead skin.

The more we learn about the way leather and fur is produced, the less we can say we did not know about the deaths of millions of animals.

“China’s dog-meat industry was exposed long ago, but did you know that dogs are also bludgeoned and killed so that their skins can be turned into leather gloves, belts, jacket collar trim, cat toys, and other items? You can’t tell the difference when you handle these items—they could have been made from any animal.

A new PETA Asia undercover investigation shows workers grabbing one dog after another around the neck with metal pinchers and bashing them over the head with a wooden pole. Dogs next in line for slaughter are heard wailing and barking as a worker hits them while leading them to the kill floor.

The investigator also documented that dog skin was turned into women’s fashion gloves, men’s work gloves, and other productsthat are exported from China and sold throughout the world to unsuspecting customers. So if you buy leather, remember: There’s no easy way to tell whose skin you’re really in. In fact, cats’ skins are also turned into leather so that every last cent or yuan can be squeezed out of the dog and cat meat trade.

Please watch this very brief video footage now, then share it with everyone you know and pledge to leave leather off your holiday (and any other) shopping list!”

Do Experiments Get Better with Each Abuse?

Photo: PeTA

Photo: PeTA

Why repeat experiments for decades even though these have been already dissected, researched and studied from every angle possible? Who is behind these inhumane doings? And who pays for them? The only question easily answerable is the last one: tax payers pay for these atrocious doings.

“For decades, an experimenter at the National Institutes of Health named Stephen Suomi has been conducting cruel psychological experiments on baby monkeys. In these experiments, monkeys are bred to be prone to depression and other mental illnesses. Every year, dozens of infant monkeys are torn away from their mothers at birth and isolated in tiny cages. They are then subjected to years of painful and terrifying experiments in order to worsen their symptoms of mental illness and measure the severity of their psychological trauma.

Today, December 16, is Stephen Suomi’s birthday. It hardly seems right that the man responsible for traumatizing baby monkeys starting on the day they’re born should be able to celebrate his own birthday without being reminded of the suffering he causes. We’re asking you to take a few minutes to call Suomi’s office and politely demand that these barbaric experiments be put to an end.”

To Make Foie Gras Is Like Water Boarding a Goose

This is the time of year when most people want to eat something special, something out of the ordinary. Sadly, this very often ends with some animal having been tortured or killed. One of these “specialties” is foie gras, a paté made out of the fattened liver of geese, who were force fed by stuffing the food down their throat.

“PETA just received word about Foie La La, a promotion of foie gras cruelty in which nine H Street eateries in Washington, D.C., will offer the diseased livers of tortured birds to restaurant patrons from December 15 through 25, concluding with a voting contest for the “best” dish. Foie gras, which literally translates to “fatty liver,” is made from the engorged livers of ducks and geese. The Foie La La website says, “Come share the greatest gift a duck can give this holiday season!” Seriously?

This holiday, please help ducks and geese who are abused for this “delicacy of despair.” Please talk with the restaurant managers in person (or call, write, tweet, and post!). Urge them to stop selling foie gras, and encourage them to sell vegan pâté instead.”

Do not eat foie gras wherever you will be celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or your special day in your life.

If you see it on the menu tell the restaurant politely that there is no need to offer this food to their customers, there are healthier foods out there.

Mice Are Cute and Rats Are Vile – Really?

Photo: PeTA

Photo: PeTA

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-16 um 09.01.41

Most people will say cats, dogs and even mice are cute animals, and would not purposely hurt them. But rats? These intelligent, but seemingly vile animals seem to have no lobby, hardly any lovers, not even in the “animal lover community”. Rodents are considered pests and therefore, they are “exterminated”, “eradicated “and “extinguished” wherever and whenever possible. Nobody says “killed”, “murdered” or “abused” when talking about bringing death to these animals. Many studies have proven, though, that mice, rats and other rodents have many traits and abilities making them special and worthy to be treated well, just like every being should be treated.

“PETA’s latest eyewitness investigation, at Willards Rodent Factory, a breeding warehouse, and Jurassic Pets LLC, a pet store in Colorado, revealed horrific conditions, systematic neglect, and the pervasive suffering of thousands of animals. Witnesses found animals languishing and dying in cramped, putrid enclosures filled with days’ or weeks’ worth of feces—often with the full knowledge of the owners and management. Based on PETA’s evidence, the Thornton, Colorado, Police Department executed a search warrant at Jurassic Pets that allowed them to rescue some of the mammals, reptiles, and amphibians there.

Despite having extensive evidence of persistent, widespread cruelty to animals for more than two months, the Adams County, Colorado, Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) has not helped the thousands of animals at Willards Rodent Factory,”

Urgent: Helpers Against Killing of Deer in Washington, DC Needed

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-16 um 15.50.14

The shooters come at night, killing a many deer as they can. Even though it has been proven that there are more humane ways of animal control the brutal medieval methods remain in place. In the middle of the capitol of the United States hunters may use their deadly weapons.

If you live in the area please help:

“Sadly, the killing of the Rock Creek Park deer has started.  We must show the public, the courts, and the executive and legislative authorities that we do not accept the slaughter the park has been carrying out on our deer.

We have already been out protesting on an emergency basis (when our surveillance team finds they are setting up to shoot deer) , and that will continue.  But we also want to hold scheduled daytime rallies.  I am getting ready to schedule the first one and would like your help with it.  There are at least three ways you could help.

  1. “Help with scheduling.  The major goal in a scheduled rally is to get people out to show support, so we want to make it as convenient as possible for everyone who would like to join, especially among our active supporters in the area.  I have already heard that a number of people will be gone for a substantial amount of time in December, so I do not plan to hold this until January.    I would like to know from you what days and times would be most convenient.  Typically we have held most scheduled rallies on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  Is that a good time for you? Or would another day of the week or time of day be better?  Also, which weekends would be good.  I think it should be within  the first few weeks of January  – say by Sunday January 18 at the latest.  If you are interested in joining, let me know what within this range would be a good time for you.  I would like to hear from you within a week of this email so that we can set a date and have ample time to publicize it well ahead of time.
  1. Help with publicizing.  Are you in a position to help pass the word about a scheduled rally?  Either among your personal friends or a group or facebook page you belong to whose members are likely to be interested in our cause?.

Also, if you are good with turning excel files into email distribution lists, we could use your help.  We need to distill an excel file of 5,000 supporters from all over the world into a series of 50-person distribution lists of supporters from the DC area.

Please let me know if you can help with either of these areas.

  1. Are you interested in joining some of the emergency protests?.  We have no way of knowing when these will be until the night of the kill, usually after 8 or 9 PM.  We have a group of people who come out if they are able on that night.  If you would like to join us please let me know.

Finally if there are other ways you could help that I haven’t mentioned, please let me know.  We are immensely grateful for your support of the deer.  With your help we can eventually stop this senseless killing.

Thanks

Anne Barton

How to Cope With Mass Murder

Photo: The Guardian

Photo: The Guardian

It is much easier to look away and say, ” I cannot handle seeing this” or “There is no way I can watch this”. But there are people watching, and not only watching but taking part in cruelty towards other beings. Are they all heartless, sadistic monsters? Then most of the world’s population would fall into this category. No, many of them believe their actions are necessary for whatever reasons. So it is up to those people who believe in letting other beings live their lives without human torment to reach out and find convincing arguments against inhumane behavior.

Two animal welfare campaigners, Jayasimha Nuggehalli and Alokparna Sengupta, went ahead and watched the mass murder of thousands of animals in the name of God. They did not turn away. Instead, they reported these gruesome actions so that the world knows and cannot turn away. How very brave and impressive.

Here is their story

One Elephant Saved

Photo: Wildlife SOS

Photo: Wildlife SOS

It does not take much to help an animal in need. This elephant´s story proves that speaking up on behalf of a being who cannot speak for himself can change the world for this being:

“The Allahabad High Court issued a ruling to keep Raju the crying elephant free and in our care instead of going back to a life of shackles and abuse. We are so grateful to all the people around the world who helped Raju by donating or by signing the petition on Change.org.”

Thank you for helping this elephant!

Black Bears Need Bright Future

Photo: PeTA

Photo: PeTA

Some people believe that bears are cuddly toys. And cute to watch. But bears grow into imposing creatures and then they often end up in abysmal places. Somewhere in Tennessee, two bears have made it to a better future. But those that had to stay behind also have a right to a bright future, outside of a concrete entrapment into a green life.

“Two Himalayan black bears who had been confined to a tiny cage in a residential backyard by Three Bears General Store Owner Bill DeLozier in Sevierville, Tenn., have been released into their new homes at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado. But there are five more bears still being held captive in a virtually barren concrete pit at DeLozier’s store, and they need your help.”
