What Do Taxes Have to Do With Animal Abuse?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-04-16 um 09.52.00

Many important projects are funded with taxes: streets and parks, schools and universities, emergency clinics and  … experiments on animals. You can argue that some experiments are necessary to save human lives, but once you learn more about these experiments you will most certainly come to the conclusion that this is not what you want to pay for.

“Just in time for tax week, the White Coat Waste Movement has launched an explosive new exposé from Executive Producer Glenn Beck against the government’s $12 billion+ forced taxpayer-funded animal experimentation budget. And we’re airing it on national cable TV right now!

Follow this link to watch our unprecedented new investigation from Executive Producer Glenn Beck. See what the taxpayer-funded animal abusers don’t want you to know about.

For animal experimenters, tax day is even better than Christmas Day. Every April 15, we’re forced to pay over $12 billion in taxes for painful and worthless government animal experiments on dogs, cats, primates, and other animals.”

Peeing for Pause´s Pains

At first, this does not sound so bad for the animals: the pharmaceutical industry uses the urine of pregnant horses to derive hormones aiding humans during the times of menopause. You might have this strangely funny picture in your mind of people running after horses trying to gather the urine while the horses romp happily over green meadows. But reality´s image is harsh:

“The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer makes about a $1 billion a year by abusing pregnant horses for their urine. Conjugated equine estrogen (CEE) is used in menopause and osteoporosis drugs for Pfizer, and if this sounds crazy, it is! As the founding President of The Horse Fund, an equine advocacy organization, I have followed this issue for years, and really need your help to get Pfizer to stop abusing horses. Please sign my petition for Pfizer to stop using horse urine to produce conjugated equine estrogen for its Premarin, Prempro, Duavee, and other products.

In this horrible industry, mares are repeatedly impregnated for an average of 12 years, and spend 6 months of their 11-month pregnancy confined to stalls so small they have difficulty turning around or lying down. Most of this time is spent standing up on cold concrete floors. They are permanently attached to cumbersome rubber urine collection bags hanging between their hind legs that chafe their flanks, cause infections and severely limit movement.”

Clubbing Has a Terrifying Second Meaning

photo: HSI

If you thought seals would be safe this year since there are hardly any states left that would import the skins of baby seals, sadly, this is not true. Canada has – again – allowed the killing of seals for their white fur. And clubbing them to death is the method of choice to preserve the pristine quality of the animal skins.

“Right now, we are flying off the coast of Newfoundland, ready to document, as fishermen shoot and club these helpless seal pups to death for their fur.

Hundreds of seals have already died on Canada’s ice floes, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking.”

A Live Frog Is the Best Frog, also for Learning

Screen Shot 2015-04-12 at 2.40.30 AM

Children and students are curious by nature and that is good. But it is incomprehensible why they must be taught how to kill an animal to learn something about nature and specifically more about animals. How can we believe that compassion for animals could result from cutting an animal apart?

“April is National Frog Month – an important reminder that millions of these amazing animals are taken from the wild each year to be used for biology lessons. Frogs cannot be successfully bred in captivity and must be taken from their natural habitats. Removed from our wetlands, they suffer in transport and embalming. And, dissecting once-living frogs contributes to our ecological imbalance and further compromises nature’s fragile resources. As a keystone species, dissecting frogs contributes to not only their decline but to that of other wildlife populations as well. It exposes students to toxic chemicals and in turn, contaminates our environment as formaldehyde-ridden body parts need to be disposed when the class is done.”

If you know any students who have to dissect frogs please pass this on. If you know any teachers please pass this on. If you know anyone in the school system please pass this on.

How Is a Chicken Turned into Meat? By Torture

Mercy for Animals

Mercy for Animals

Many people love to eat chicken. But would they enjoy seeing what the chickens had to go through before landing on their plate? Probably not. As long as there are meat eaters there will be factories processing live animals. But do these animals need to suffer before being killed? No. But the animals need help to protect them from all the cruelty.

“In the last few weeks, both The New York Times (http://bit.ly/GFSNYTKristof) and USA Today (http://bit.ly/GFSUSAToday), two of the largest newspapers in the country, have slammed the horrific cruelty to chickens our undercover video exposed at a Gordon Food Service supplier. USA Today has even stated that “there’s a big space between what’s legal and what’s right” and that “none of this is necessary.” Over 100,000 of you who signed this petition agree!

Could you take a minute today to call Gordon Food Service’s headquarters? Please call Gordon Food Service at 800-968-4164 and demand that the company stop torturing chickens, ask for CEO Jim Gordon, and leave a polite voice mail telling him that you want chickens to suffer less and Gordon Food Service to implement a meaningful animal welfare policy. You can also email jim.gordon@gfs.com and info@gfs.com

Please help by making a phone call, sharing the information, spreading the word.

Greyhounds: Running for Their Life

photo: GREY2K USA

Dog racing seems so old fashioned for those of us who think of it as torturous. But sadly, there still are people out there who have no idea that this is not entertainment and certainly no fun for the animals.

“There is a bill that will help greyhounds now moving through the House and we need Florida residents to send a strong message for all members to Vote Yes on House Bill 1233. Click here for instructions:” http://www.grey2kusa.org/eNEWS/G2K-040915.html

If you live in Florida or know someone who lives there please help, share and spread the word.

Saving One Elephant at a Time

photo: PeTA

photo: PeTA

In the last weeks we have heard news about some circuses thinking about retiring their elephants – but not before 2018. That means three more long years imprisoned and tortured for “entertainment”. Most zoos should at least follow suit since most of them are not capable of caring adequately for the lives of those imprisoned in their care. And some elephants need immediate help due to their health status. Three more years in their current situation is a death sentence. Asha is one of these animals.

“Local news outlets are reporting that Natural Bridge Zoo will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The facility was scheduled to reopen the weekend of April 4 after being closed for the winter, but on April 3, 2015, a judge refused to restore the facility’s state permit, which was suspended following numerous violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act. When the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries suspended the facility’s state permit on March 9, 2015, it stated that “many of the animals are confined under unsanitary and inhumane conditions.” We will continue to keep you informed of any developments. If you haven’t already taken action, please sign our petition urging the zoo to retire Asha the elephant.

The Natural Bridge Zoo (NBZ) in Virginia has held the elephant Asha under deplorable conditions for decades and denied her the companionship of other elephants, which is devastating for such a highly social animal. Join PETA in urging NBZ proprietors Karl and Debbie Mogensen to prioritize Asha’s well-being by retiring her to an accredited sanctuary.”
