How Many Animals Need Help?

Whoever is concerned about animal welfare is often overwhelmed by the many causes being addressed asking for support, mostly by asking for donations.

There is a study by the Animal Charity Evaluators which evaluates where the most animals are being harmed and which causes  make the most difference if successfully implemented. Not surprisingly, the gruesome fact is that factory farming leads to the highest numbers of animals killed. If it were possible to eradicate these murder machines billions of lives could be saved. Investing in causes linked to the end of these man-made hells would save more lives than with any other cause.

The study is not about the quality of life for sentient beings, but only about the quantity of animals in need.

This is a wonderful example of an animal sanctuary in England. It is run by a dedicated person who also is on of the world’s fastest runners, running on plant based energy.

Putting on Pressure Helps; One Company More Pledges to Go Cage-Free

Factory farming has led to some of the cruelest forms of animal abuse. Thanks to rising awareness and continuous animal advocacy another company has decided that moving away from cruelty towards animals is a win-win deal. The fast-food chain Wendy’s has pledged to stop buying eggs from caged hens, thereby following Panera Bread, Taco Bell and other food-providing companies.

This shows that petitions can lead to change, and that the voices of those speaking out against animal abuse are being heard.

Gute Nachricht: Ein Ende des Schnabelkürzens rückt näher

Der konstante Einsatz der Albert Schweitzer Stiftung für unsere Mitwelt gegen das äußerst schmerzhafte Verstümmeln von Hennen trägt langsam Früchte:

Nachdem Niedersachsens Landwirtschaftsminister Meyer das Schnabelkürzen per Erlass zum 31.12.2016 verboten hat, steht durch einen Beschluss von KAT jetzt fest, dass dieses Verbot für alle Betriebe gelten wird, die Eier an deutsche Supermarktketten verkaufen. Betroffen sind 65 Mio. Hennen. Dies ist ein großer Erfolg für die Kampagne der Albert Schweitzer Stiftung für unsere Mitwelt. Die Stiftung rechnet mit Mehrkosten von mindestens 4 Cent pro Ei.

Die Haltungsbedingungen für Legehennen sind bislang so schlecht, dass die Hennen Verhaltensstörungen entwickeln und sich gegenseitig verletzen und töten würden, wenn man ihnen nicht als Küken die Schnabelspitzen entfernen würde.”
