Pesticides Kill

Animal testing remains the method for scientists to allegedly ensure the safety of products used by human beings. We are still a long way from eliminating these standards, but here is some good news towards the goal of an end to testing on animals:

“After discussions with PETA’s scientists, the Canadian government is ending its requirement that dogs be exposed to pesticides in year-long tests. During those tests, beagles were force-fed food laced with pesticides or were made to inhale pesticide fumes for a year, then killed and dissected. At PETA’s urging, the U.S ended this same test in 2007, and the European Union followed suit in 2013.”

One Elephant Saved

It does not take much to help an animal in need. This elephant´s story proves that speaking up on behalf of a being who cannot speak for himself can change the world for this being:

“The Allahabad High Court issued a ruling to keep Raju the crying elephant free and in our care instead of going back to a life of shackles and abuse. We are so grateful to all the people around the world who helped Raju by donating or by signing the petition on Change.org.”

Thank you for helping this elephant!

Success for Nosey – for Now!

Thank you to all of you who spoke up in Nosey´s favor! Now the pressure needs to be on the owners to let Nosey retire completely.

“After hearing from PETA about the plight of the suffering elephant Nosey, city officials in Decatur, Texas, informed the Family Fun Circus, which was reportedly set to feature Nosey during its scheduled appearance this week in the city, that it would not be allowed to exhibit her! This means an all-out victory in Texas, as all the venues in the state that were planning to host Nosey this week have canceled her appearances.

Thank you to everyone who took action. Because of you, Nosey was spared a week of exhausting and painful circus performances.”

Good News: Seventh Generation Got the Message

It is clear that through social media, petitions, e-mails and other forms of communication companies feel the pressure of the consumers and are able to react fast. So adding your voice to a petition, writing an e-mail or picking up the phone makes a difference – for many animals in this case.

“After receiving tens of thousands of calls and e-mails and after 85,000 angry consumers signed our petition, Seventh Generation now understands the importance of animal-protection issues to consumers, and it has cleaned up its act! The company reversed course and signed on to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s letter to Congress acknowledging that animal tests are “slow, unreliable, and expensive” and calling for non-animal methods and strategies to be used first and foremost, and it has committed to advocating for this principle in all of its lobbying efforts.”

Good News: Wyoming Wolves Protected Under The Endangered Species Act

It is wonderful to share some good news:

“A federal judge ruled that Wyoming wolves must once again be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Today, it is no longer legal in Wyoming to shoot wolves on sight, chase them down with vehicles, or gas wolf pups in their dens—all of which were permissible under Wyoming’s flawed wolf management scheme.”

War Zones: Human Suffering Always Leads to Animal Suffering

Photo: Four Paws

The conflict in the Middle East has left people homeless, children orphaned, nearly everybody suffering. And in the midst of the misery the animals hardly have a chance of help. Some organizations still take the risks and try to help these animals in desperate need.

“The conflict in the Gaza strip that went on for weeks caused not only human casualties but affected animals as well. The zoo in North Gaza was heavily damaged during the conflict. More than eighty animals in the zoo perished. The twenty surviving animals are now finally receiving medical assistance. The animal rescue organization FOUR PAWS was able to get access to the heavily damaged zoo and provide lifesaving medicine and food for the animals, as well as to restore the water supply.”

Saved For Now: Huckleberry Wolf Pack

Photo: Center for Biological Diversity

Due to the public´s outcry the governor of the state of Washington stopped the killing of the wolf pack known as the Huckleberry Pack. Several organizations have helped in this fight for the lives of the wolves, one of them being the Center for Biological Diversity.

“We breathed a sigh of relief this weekend as officials in Washington state finally called off the hunt for the Huckleberry wolf pack. The pack, hounded by helicopter snipers and trappers on the ground, faced the very real possibility of being destroyed within a matter of days.”

Thank to all who have helped so far!
