Good News:Virtual Reality Surgical System Replaces Practice with Live Pigs

Technologies in many fields are advancing at an ever faster pace. Some of these save lives, and some of these also save lives of animals in a different ways.

Many doctors had to do their training on live animals, but now there are some fascinating replacement technologies that not only save human lives but also the lives of other beings.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) doctors-in-training at renowned Rush University Medical Center in Chicago will no longer practice surgical procedures on live pigs. Thanks to a collaboration between the hospital and PETA, medical residents will now train on a state-of-the-art virtual reality surgical system.

“The surgical experience of our residents takes a huge leap forward as we move toward a more humane and effective method of simulation training,” said Dr. Xavier Pombar, the OB/GYN residency director at Rush University. “Representatives from PETA have worked steadfastly with our department toward this goal. I cannot thank them enough for their efforts.”

Now this news has to spread so that more doctors can learn without harming other beings.

Sheep Like to Keep Their Wool

Usually, we get to see these pictures of fluffy whit sheep roaming happily over green meadows. But there is nothing happy going on when sheep are sheared. It is time to get this picture out of the heads and reflect on what is done to other beings for human comfort.

“J.Crew and Ralph Lauren saw this video and did nothing:

Petition: Wool Is For Sheep Only

Growing up, winters were cold and we had to wear wool sweaters. They were scratchy and itchy, and we dreaded wearing them. But they did keep us warm. Today, there are fabulous new materials out there that neither scratch nor itch but also keep the body warm and comfortable. It therefore has become so easy to live without wool – if you´re not a sheep, that is.

“As first reported by NBC, in PETA’s latest eyewitness investigations, workers killed, beat, stomped on, kicked, mutilated, and threw sheep around as they sheared them in Australia, one of the world’s top wool producers, and the U.S.

As you can see in the groundbreaking video footage, sheep shearers violently punched these gentle animals in the face, beat them, jabbed them in the head with sharp metal clippers and a hammer, and stomped and stood on their heads and necks. One shearer killed a sheep by repeatedly twisting and bending a sheep’s neck, breaking it. Workers threw scared sheep around and slammed their heads and bodies against hard wooden floors. ”

Drunk Lamb = Drunk Baby?

More and more studies find that medical experiments on animals cannot be reliable to find out if the findings can help evaluate any risks for human beings.
Here is another experiment that should be stopped as soon as possible:

“Texas A&M University is injecting pregnant sheep with alcohol to study fetal alcohol syndrome. Before the lambs are born, they are removed and killed, so their brains can be studied. The mother sheep are killed, too. It’s horribly cruel, and completely senseless.

These animal experiments have been going on for more than 17 years — yet they haven’t helped a single human mother or child!

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is working hard to stop these unusually cruel experiments. We’ve flooded Texas A&M with petitions, we’ve met with decision makers, and we’re getting the facts out through two billboards outside the campus. But we must do more before another animal is harmed!

PCRM has scientists, physicians and veterinarians on our side — but we need more compassionate people like you to help. Please help us save sheep from cruelty today!”
