Remember Nosey the Elephant?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-03-31 um 08.57.56

There is a glimmer of hope for a better life in the future of Nosey the elephant:

“The USDA has ordered Nosey out of the circus where she was performing in Texas and back to Florida for a veterinary check!

Thank you to the 163,000+ of you who signed this petition and sent letters to the USDA asking them to act on behalf of the long-suffering Nosey. Your voice has been heard!”

Thank you for helping and we will keep you updated on Nosey´s progress.

Do keep in mind to let your city officials know that you do not want circuses with animals performing in your city.

Good News: The Race Might Soon Be Over

Photo: GREY2K USA

Photo: GREY2K USA

Many people like to gamble, that´s why there are so many casinos spread over the world. Along with gambling comes betting. And betting is often tied to live beings. Boxing, car races … and animal races. The two most favorite races are horse races and greyhound races. Most of those betting on these animals have no idea what a miserable life these animals lead until they either die on the tracks, are killed due to injuries obtained during a race, or are killed once they no longer can perform adequately.

“A Travis County, Texas, judge ruled that racetracks in Texas could not use slot machines to make up for their losses on live racing. This means that the cruelty of dog racing at Gulf Greyhound Park will not be subsidized and two former dog tracks will not re-open as “racinos!” The state’s last operational track will now stand or fall on its own.”

Let’s Help Nosey to Retire Permanently

Photo: PeTA

Photo: PeTA

Thank you to all of you who have spoken up for Nosey, the elephant. If we all stick together and speak up there is a chance of giving Nosey a life in freedom.

_Other animals have also suffered in Liebel’s neglectful hands—the USDA has cited Liebel for keeping Reggie the spider monkey in “extremely dirty and soiled” enclosures, leaving him tethered dangerously to a pony, and allowing him to escape for six weeks. In 2013, Liebel was ordered to pay a $7,500 penalty and to cease and desist from violating the law following nearly three dozen charges of violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

Nosey cannot suffer any longer. Please join PETA today in politely urging the FWC to revoke Liebel’s captive wildlife permits and elephant ride authorization.”

Good News: Seventh Generation Got the Message

Photo: AAVS

Photo: AAVS

It is clear that through social media, petitions, e-mails and other forms of communication companies feel the pressure of the consumers and are able to react fast. So adding your voice to a petition, writing an e-mail or picking up the phone makes a difference – for many animals in this case.

“After receiving tens of thousands of calls and e-mails and after 85,000 angry consumers signed our petition, Seventh Generation now understands the importance of animal-protection issues to consumers, and it has cleaned up its act! The company reversed course and signed on to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s letter to Congress acknowledging that animal tests are “slow, unreliable, and expensive” and calling for non-animal methods and strategies to be used first and foremost, and it has committed to advocating for this principle in all of its lobbying efforts.”

How to Get Safely to the Other Side of the Road

Photo: National Park Service

Photo: National Park Service

Urban areas against rural parts of the world. Who are the first to lose? The animals that need to go from one part of their habitat to another. In several countries around the world wildlife crossings have been built. These crossings, either bridges or tunnels, make it possible for wildlife to travel without having to fear for their life when crossing highways. It is a win-win situation: people and animals are kept safe.

Mountain lions and other vulnerable wildlife in the hills surrounding Los Angeles are trapped by heavily trafficked freeways cutting through their habitat areas—and many are dying trying to make it across freeways to roam or search for food.

But we have an opportunity to provide safe passage for mountain lions in this vital habitat area by creating a wildlife crossing.

Help mountain lions roam their habitat by adding your voice of support for a wildlife crossing. ”

Animals and Oil Do Not Mix Well

Photo: NWF

Photo: NWF

Four years after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico many animals still are in dire straights. Not only have many animals died due to the disaster, but the offspring of many species still is threatened by the aftermath of this ecological nightmare.

“This summer, endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle hatchlings faced many obstacles as they scrambled from their nest towards the Gulf waters.

But their biggest hurdle in the waters ahead may be the lingering effects of the 2010 Gulf oil spill.

Finally, we’re nearing a point where the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council can seriously start reviewing long-term restoration projects in the Gulf.

Urge the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council to restore habitat for Gulf wildlife like the Kemp’s ridley sea turtles!

One Deal = Heaven or Hell for Millions

Photo: HSI

Photo: HSI

Trade deals between nations can change the fate not only of these nations´s human population but can also make or break the lives of millions of animals.

The more animal welfare groups speak up before all deals are settled, the better the chances are their voices will be heard.

“Currently, the United States lags far behind the EU, where legislation protects farm animals from extreme confinement systems like battery cages and gestation crates. The EU also bans animal testing for cosmetics, but the U.S. still allows this painful and lethal testing. And unfortunately the U.S. and EU continue to legally import and export wildlife — in many cases, from endangered species who are caught, transported, and often killed in the most inhumane ways.

The TTIP agreement could push the U.S. to improve animal welfare standards if it wants to gain greater access to the EU market. It’s a roundabout — but effective — way to improve living conditions for millions of hens, pigs, and cows; ending the suffering of hundreds of thousands of rabbits and mice, and protecting wild animals. In other words, this single trade deal could accomplish the same progress for animals as multiple laws.”

Good News: Wyoming Wolves Protected Under The Endangered Species Act

Photo: Jess Lee

Photo: Jess Lee

It is wonderful to share some good news:

“A federal judge ruled that Wyoming wolves must once again be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Today, it is no longer legal in Wyoming to shoot wolves on sight, chase them down with vehicles, or gas wolf pups in their dens—all of which were permissible under Wyoming’s flawed wolf management scheme.”

From Bliss Back to Abuse?

Photo: Wildlife SOS

Photo: Wildlife SOS

First, there is the good news of an animal being saved after over 50 years of abuse and torture. Not everyone agrees with anthropomorphous ways of thinking, but it is most certain that an animal freed will delight in this newly found freedom.

But going back to the ordeal is probably the worst kind of abuse.

“We rescued Raju after he spent approximately 50 years chained up, beaten, and help captive by beggars in India. His rescue story went viral online because this abused elephant was crying tears of joy when he was finally set free in a loving environment at our elephant sanctuary.

At the time of his rescue he was near death. He was emaciated, dehydrated and exhausted. Despite his frailness, he was forced to beg on the streets and was being kept in spiked chains.

Now the cruel person who had illegal custody of him is trying to get him back through the Allahabad court. You helped free him once by supporting Wildlife SOS campaigns and our sanctuaries.”
