Stephen Huneck was an artist who dedicated much of his work to dogs. He and his wife Gwen opened up Dog Mountain to the public and since the year 2000 many dog events have taken place in this beautiful part of Vermont. Dogs get to run free and can enjoy some fun times with many other dogs.

One last dog party is coming up:

“Saturday October 11th, noon to 4. It’s our last dog party of the year, and it should be great!

It’s the most beautiful time of the year in New England, and it’s time once again to celebrate the season at Dog Mountain’s annual Fall Dog Party!

There will be a host of activities for the whole family, from foot-tapping live music by Vermont folk duo The Endorsements, to a bounce house for the kids, door prizes, food, dog contests, and more.

We hope you can take the time to grab your camera, hop in the car, and take the scenic ride to leaf-romping, four-legged fun and smiles at Dog Mountain. Your dogs will thank you with many wags of their tail and wet kisses.

The Fall Dog Party 2014 is free to the public and will be held rain or shine

If you would like to help Dog Mountain promote the Fall Dog Party, please print out our poster Here.

Or, if you would like to donate an hour or two of your time to help out at the party, please fill out a volunteer form Here.”

New Leash on Life Party at Dog Mountain

Dog Mountain, created by Stephen Huneck and his wife Gwen, is something of a dog paradise in New England.

“Dog Mountain is set on 150 acres on a private mountaintop spot in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The grounds are always open to people and their dogs. Stephen Huneck and his wife, Gwen, bought the property in 1995. They turned the barn into studio space. After Stephen’s unique visionary experience, the Dog Chapel soon followed. The Dog Chapelopened its doors Memorial Day weekend of 2000. The unspoiled haven is covered with hiking trails and dog ponds. Wildflowers abound in the summer and snow-shoeing is a favorite activity in the winter. Year after year, the Dog Chapel and the Stephen Huneck Gallery get more and more visitors from all over the world.

There is no leash law on Dog Mountain. Dogs are not just welcome here, they are cherished! Dogs are free to run, play, swim and best of all meet other dogs! It’s great to hear from tourists and local residents alike how much Dog Mountain means to them and their dogs.”

It is the place to go if you are a dog person, whether or not you have a dog with you does not matter. You are always welcome.

On June 22nd, 2014, there will be a new event:

“We thought, let’s host a day at Dog Mountain where nearby shelters and rescues can come and bring potential adoptees and info on their organizations, and people can come and support their work and maybe find a new canine family member to take home!”
