Circus for Humans Only

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 3.58.34 AMphoto: World Animal Protection

More and more people no longer associate circus with watching animals pressured into abnormal behavior but love to see other humans perform amazing, daring, funny, and beautiful acts.

If you want to be amazed by a wild animal there are many ways to do this without harming this creature.

“We welcome the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ recent vote to ban the use of wild and exotic animals in performances for entertainment.

The ban was approved and applies to circuses, backyard birthday parties and filming of movies and television shows. San Francisco is just one of many cities around the country that are increasingly making animal welfare a priority by keeping animals out of circuses.

Every day, animals suffer in the name of entertainment. They are snatched from their natural habitats and forced into captivity where they are often subjected to abuse – both mentally and physically. All of this happens behind the scenes, so the public is usually unaware that any of this suffering goes on.”

What Do Taxes Have to Do With Animal Abuse?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-04-16 um 09.52.00

Many important projects are funded with taxes: streets and parks, schools and universities, emergency clinics and  … experiments on animals. You can argue that some experiments are necessary to save human lives, but once you learn more about these experiments you will most certainly come to the conclusion that this is not what you want to pay for.

“Just in time for tax week, the White Coat Waste Movement has launched an explosive new exposé from Executive Producer Glenn Beck against the government’s $12 billion+ forced taxpayer-funded animal experimentation budget. And we’re airing it on national cable TV right now!

Follow this link to watch our unprecedented new investigation from Executive Producer Glenn Beck. See what the taxpayer-funded animal abusers don’t want you to know about.

For animal experimenters, tax day is even better than Christmas Day. Every April 15, we’re forced to pay over $12 billion in taxes for painful and worthless government animal experiments on dogs, cats, primates, and other animals.”

Greyhounds: Running for Their Life

Dog racing seems so old fashioned for those of us who think of it as torturous. But sadly, there still are people out there who have no idea that this is not entertainment and certainly no fun for the animals.

“There is a bill that will help greyhounds now moving through the House and we need Florida residents to send a strong message for all members to Vote Yes on House Bill 1233. Click here for instructions:” http://www.grey2kusa.org/eNEWS/G2K-040915.html

If you live in Florida or know someone who lives there please help, share and spread the word.

Must Beauty and Cosmetics Equal Animal Torture? No!

Screen Shot 2015-04-08 at 3.24.50 AM

More and more countries are rethinking their policies on testing products, whether old or new ones, on animals. This is leading to changes in the law – luckily in favor of the animals. The European Union – all 28 countries – has banned testing on animals for cosmetics. And more are following suit.

“New Zealand just became the first Australasian country to ban cosmetics animal testing. Earlier this week, an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act was passed, reflecting the nation’s desire for humane beauty products.”

Strength in Numbers: British Parliament Votes on Dog Meat Trade

photo: soidog.org

The more people make their voices heard, the higher chances are that there will be a change. If signing a petition against something you want to change seems like a drop in the bucket, think again. It might be the drop that brings the water to the boil.

“Want to see something powerful? Just look at your own signature.

It’s helped take the fight against dog meat traders all the way to the UK House of Commons. Which means international pressure is growing to end this despicable trade.”

Please sign the petition even if you do not live in the UK:

Thanks also to all of the people who spoke up for the horses there is good news to share:

“BREAKING NEWS: Advocates win — BLM Cancels Roundup Following Protect Mustangs’ and FOA’s Court Victory

Nevada’s beloved Pine Nut Herd from ‘The Misfits’ escapes horrible helicopter stampede

RENO, NV. (March 25, 2015)—After U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks’ Feb. 11 decision to grant Protect Mustangs’ and Friends of Animals’ (FoA) a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the proposed roundup of more than 300 wild horses on the 98,000 acre Nevada Pine Nut Herd Management Area (HMA), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced today it has officially canceled the roundup. The famous herd from ‘The Misfits’ continues to live in freedom thanks to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and justice in federal court.”

Pit Bulls in the Pits

Bildschirmfoto 2015-03-31 um 10.56.16

When most people meet a saint bernard on the street they will run up to her and pet her. Not so with pit bulls. People will try to cross the street and go as far away as possible. As with most animals, one should take a look at the other end of the leash. Yes, dogs have been bread to enhance certain characteristics. But no,  this does not make most pit bulls killer machines. Most of the time you need a human to turn the dog into a vicious being.

“Up to 99%  of pit bulls that enter a shelter are killed. Part of the problem is homeowners are finding it more and more difficult to obtain homeowners’ insurance that accept their breed of dogs.  In recent years, several insurance companies have blacklisted dog breeds they consider dangerous, making it all but impossible for dog owners to get the insurance they need to protect their home. Now Pit Bulls and similar dogs are filling up California shelters, breaking up families and costing the state millions of dollars.

It is time that California joined Pennsylvania and Michigan and prohibit breed specific insurance exclusions so we can stop the needless separation of families and the eventual euthanasia of innocent dogs.”

One Elephant Saved

It does not take much to help an animal in need. This elephant´s story proves that speaking up on behalf of a being who cannot speak for himself can change the world for this being:

“The Allahabad High Court issued a ruling to keep Raju the crying elephant free and in our care instead of going back to a life of shackles and abuse. We are so grateful to all the people around the world who helped Raju by donating or by signing the petition on Change.org.”

Thank you for helping this elephant!

Animals in Labs = Animals in Torture Chambers

Photo: Jo Ann Mc Arthur, NEAVS

Photo: Jo Anne Mc Arthur, NEAVS

As long as there are legally binding regulations that require animals to suffer in labs it is crucial to at least not add any further cruelty to their plight. But the agencies who are supposed to enforce these supervisions are not following through.

“Despite violating the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) again and again, many animal research facilities face few consequences. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), charged with enforcing the AWA, must take stronger action.

The Santa Cruz Biotechnology (SCBT) animal research facility has too long a history of alleged and actual Animal Welfare Act (AWA) violations, resulting in needless additional pain for animals already suffering in labs. For years, NEAVS has called on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), charged with enforcing the AWA, to revoke the lab’s license. We would also like to thank our supporters for writing letters. But business continues as usual.”
